Larder is about getting back to basics. It's about finding or rediscovering the simple pleasure of cooking from scratch. Not by being restrained by a cookery book and lists of intimidating ingredients, but rather by learning a set of skills from a recipe book and using these as the building blocks to unleash your own intuition for combining flavors. Allowing the use of what's available as you open the cupboard doors in your own kitchen.
Larder doesn’t want to intervene in your cooking style. It simply wants to provide you with the knowledge and ingredients you need to cook delicious, satisfying meals that you’ll enjoy. Through a combination of excellent food writing and thoughtfully sourced ingredients, Larder hopes to make the daily ritual of eating an essence to the fabric of all our routines, no matter when we learnt to cook.
Each of our boxes contains a recipe book (your guide), some key hero ingredients, and essential cooking tools. Our boxes are made from mycelium and agricultural waste, and can be used as a live material to grow your own herbs. The box itself is entirely compostable, so you can feel good about reducing your environmental impact.

Mycelium is essentially the root structure of fungus. A combination of agricultural feedstock together with the unique binding strength of mycelium produces a completely natural material that is lightweight, strong and offers a fantastic alternative to fossil fuel-derived options.
For obvious reasons Larder has opted to use the planet-friendly, protective packaging for our boxes.
The real magic of this mushroom-inspired material is that it literally starts life growing to fill moulds (so can be shaped to take on almost any form) and continues by allowing buyers to grow other ingredients in it!

“Breadmaking is one of those almost hypnotic businesses, like a dance from some ancient ceremony. It leaves you filled with one of the world's sweetest smells... there is no chiropractic treatment, no Yoga exercise, no hour of meditation in a music-throbbing chapel that will leave you emptier of bad thoughts than this homely ceremony of making bread.” — M.F.K. Fisher
